Lightweights
Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing is sponsored by KPMG: http://www.kpmg.co.uk/careers/
The lightweight women’s boat race is a unique event in university rowing, pitting two crews of high standard against each other in the knowledge that neither has a size advantage, leaving the outcome to be decided by will and strength alone.
We carry out individual assessments for the entire squad (both Openweights and potential Lightweights) at the start of trialling, and set weight targets that each can meet if care is taken to eat healthily and effectively for the training being done. Those that are capable of making the lightweight weight on race day are encouraged to consider the option, all the while striving to be the strongest oarswoman they can. Additionally, the experience of past triallists and coaches allows the club to help athletes reach the 59kg target safely and sensibly.
As a general guide people that might be considered for the lightweight boat start off weighing 64kg or less in October, to be lost gradually throughout the year. If you have any questions about trialling and weight please get in touch with our President (president@cuwbc.org) or Head Coach (martyn@cuwbc.org).
