Coxing

Coxing for CUWBC is a hugely rewarding experience. You will get the chance to cox high level athletes, and will find that your skills improve rapidly as you progress. As a cox, you will be challenged as much as your rowers, and ultimately expected to become their ‘coach in the boat’, running the sessions on a day to day basis, and freeing up the coaches’ time to give feedback to the crew. Your input will be crucial to the efficient running of training sessions, and you will be expected to make sure that everything goes smoothly!

The criteria used for cox selection mainly centre around your control of a boat, your control of the crew and your ability to give clear, sensible instructions. Rowers are like sheep – they need a shepherd! Weight is also taken into account (race day target, in general, is 50kg) however the importance of this varies from person to person. Above all, your crew must trust you to put them in the best position to win every time!
