CUW at Nottingham

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

On Sunday 18th February, CUW sent three eights to race along the 6km course of the Head of the Trent. Conditions saw grey skies, little wind and a very fast stream. Having won the inaugural Robin Haslam trophy last year, the first CUW crew was entered as Senior 1 and started behind a crew from Reading RC. They raced well to receive the trophy for the second year running, in a time more than three minutes faster than last year.

The lightweights were entered as Senior 2. They were unlucky to be drawn against a slick crew from Agecroft, but finished second in their category in a time of 17:18.

The second heavyweight crew raced in the Senior 3 category, amongst twenty other crews, and came second to a Grosvenor crew in a time of 17:44.

CUWBC Association and Patrons Lunch 2007

Friday, February 16th, 2007

On Sunday 4th February 2007, we launched the first of what we hope will become the annual CUWBC Association and Patrons Lunch.  The event, held at the Old Kitchens in Trinity College, was a tremendous success and benefited from excellent food and fabulous surroundings.
Attendees included CUWBC athletes past and present, Patrons of the Club and members of the Executive Committee.  We were particularly pleased that Lord Alec Broers, previously the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, was able to attend with Lady Mary Broers, a long standing patron of the Club.
It was a great opportunity for athletes and supporters of CUWBC from across the years to meet, catch up and share stories – we understand that the event was also host to a surprise reunion between crew members from the 1971 Blue Boat who hadn’t seen each other since their rowing days!
The club hopes to build on this success and make this lunch an annual event to give our patrons and alumnae the chance to share in the success of CUWBC past and present.  We will be sending out invitations over the summer, so why not make 2008 the year for your crew reunion?
If you would like help with obtaining contact details for your crew please contact Fiona Hickley at f.hickley@ntlworld.com.
