Trial Eights – Friday 16th December

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Even a day of wind strong enough to render Dorney Lake unrowable didn’t stop CUWBC Trial Eights. A short scout around found us a stretch of flat water just around the corner, and the race was moved from the lake onto the river next door.

In the race, all crews performed strongly, giving the coaches plenty more information as they look to start putting together the crews that will race Oxford in April.

Upon our return to Cambridge, the culmination of the term’s training was celebrated with a dinner at the University Arms Hotel.

Ron Needs has been awarded the Mussabini Medal for coaching. The Mussabini Medal recognises the contribution of coaches of UK performers who have achieved outstanding success on the world stage. In Ron’s case, this related to his involvement with the GB Women’s Eight. The eight surpassed all expectations at the 2005 World Championships, by coming 5th in the Final, only 3 seconds behind the winners, Australia.
